E3 Expo 2015 – ‘Star Wars Battlefront 3’ was the Star of the Show

GameStop, Inc.

I wanted to share with you my experience of attending all three days of the video game convention E3 Expo that was held at the Los Angeles Convention center. If you don’t know, E3 is a showcase for industry folks/press that showcases the latest video games that are in development. Most of the companies showcase games that have a release date this fall. Best way to describe it is as video game convention version of SDCC with big fancy booths, photo ops, signings, and free swag.

So what was the biggest buzz from the people attending the expo? The answer is Star Wars Battlefront. Technically it is Star Wars Battlefront 3, the first two were released on Playstation 2 and Xbox back in the day, way before online play was popular. I remember playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 on Xbox Live with like 2 other people in a match. I was lucky when there were 4 – 5 people in an online match. So I used to play the campaign for Star Wars Battlefront 2 over and over. I still consider Star Wars Battlefront 2 one of my favorite video games of all time. Because of that I have always said how come there isn’t a third one for Playstation 4 or Xbox One? Well it was worth the wait.

While I was hoping they would let us try the Hoth multiplayer at E3 Expo, I bet you have caught yourself drooling over the video EA has released online like myself, they didn’t, but they did let us play survival mode on Tatooine. Basically you and a co-op player have just crashed landed in an escape pod on the desert planet. Imperial Shuttles are landing around you dropping off stormtroopers and even AT-STs to hunt you down. Admiral Ackbar tells you “IT’S A TRAP!” No he doesn’t, he just says you are on your own. So you must survive each wave that the Empire throws at you. The controls were really easy to pick up. It follows pretty much the style of every first person shooter. Since I’m a Call of Duty nut I loved it; Star Wars Battlefront is basically COD in the Star Wars Universe.

Before you start playing you get to pick your gun and pack. Regular gun, sniper rifle style, and heavy gun. When each gun over heats you have to wait for it to cool down before shooting again. If you press the square button at the right time (when the bar was yellow for like a second) your gun reloads faster. However if you miss-timed it your gun now takes twice as long to cool down. Since I am so used to Call of Duty, every time I would be done shooting a stormtrooper I would hit the reload button. But there is none in Star Wars Battlefront since it is laser blasts. Now back to your packs. Each one comes with a booster back pack like the exo-suit that allows you to jump in Call of Duty: Advance Warfare. However, your suit takes a while to refill its energy so you can’t keep jumping in a row like COD. One pack is more offensive based that comes with grenades and rockets. The other is more defensive with a shield and an ion cannon which can only shoot at vehicles when targeted and locked. The ion cannon comes in handy when an AT-ST is chasing you around.

The level its self is so real looking. The surveil co-op mode for Star Wars Battlefront was so much fun that I played it a couple of times at the expo. EA even had some fun photo spots for the game that included you with two stormtroopers. The original stormtroopers, not Episode VII versions. It also had one of you riding a speeder bike on the planet Hoth with a crashed snow speeder behind you. Well, I am crazy for this game. Star Wars Battlefront will be available on Xbox One and Playstation 4 on November 17 2015.

It wasn’t the only Star Wars game that had a big buzz at E3 Expo. The must have free item was at the Disney Infinity booth where you can wait in line for hours to get a free Disney Infinity 3.0 figure which featured your pick (one per a day) from either Darth Vader, Yoda, Han Solo, Chewbacca, or Obi Wan. Darth Vader went pretty quickly every morning. So what kind of nut job would wait in line for hours when you can just buy the figure when it is released this Fall on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Wii U, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. Well I am one of those nut jobs. I waited five and half hours on Tuesday to get the Chewbacca figure, and then on Thursday waited 4 hours to get Han Solo. Because you can’t have Han without Chewie. As you can see in my photo, when I brought them home to live with my fellow Marvel Disney Infinity figures. Han had to say to Chewbacca, “Chewie we are home.”

Speaking of Call of Duty, Activision let people play Call of Duty Black Ops 3 multiplayer on a domination and kill confirm level. What’s different about this one is speed! Every player has unlimited spirit, which is nice because I always pick that for all my load outs in COD games. You can also swim under water while shooting. Even climb and glide across walls while shooting. Its going to make it harder for people to camp in one spot, which personally I like. While every COD game I love to death, I will say that Black Ops 2 is still my favorite. Yea I know I am in the minority, but hey it was my favorite to play online. Call of Duty Black Ops 3 will be out on November 6, 2015 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360. Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.

Speaking of first person shooters, I found this new company called PP Gun at E3 Expo. They make the best first person shooter game experience all in a PP gun. You can hook your smart phone or tablet from Android or Apple on top of the gun. It has an adjuster grip to any size of the Apple or Android. At their demo at their booth I got to play this first person shooter game Rage. You move the gun around to aim at targets. Even when you pull the trigger the gun has kick back that you can feel. The best part is the gun’s magazine is the battery for the gun. You just take the magazine out and plug it in to charge it. So cool! It was so much fun to play. I wanted to buy it right there. Sadly the PP Gun is not available yet in the USA. However if you really want one you can help, PP Gun has a kickstarter. By supporting it you can get your own PP Gun.
