E3 An Electronic Playground

GameStop, Inc.

E3 2014 is a playground. A kid’s playground if you overdosed on Fruity Pebbles, Trix, and blasted loud dubstep into your eardrums simultaneously for three straight days. Couple that with the seizure-inducing graphics of Pokemon and lurid neon lights and you’re set.
I love E3 with a passion. It’s where as an adult I can play like a kid but with grownup toys and revel in the utter awesomeness about it. I could go around and LOOK and be transfixed with the wonder of a child that is watching a 24-7 loop of Saturday-morning cartoons.
Currently, this E3 promises to be a bit more rad than the previous year. There’s been a few surprises, disappointments, and some confusion (i.e. The Last Guardian will it or won’t it be done?)
Bruce Lee UFC This is the overall view of the E3 spectrum of which I found fascinating today. There also has been a lot of sequels and remakes – but damn do they look good.
I took a look at EA and EA Sports. Other than the regular fare of NHL and NFL 15, we have the ever-present wonder of Titanfall. Titans have been popular in current culture of being the big guy to squish and pulverize the little guy – or the little guy killing and maiming the bigger guy. The code word seems to resonate with ‘Attack on TITAN’ and hence, “Titanfall’. UFC has an interesting twist to its franchise. I actually captured the character that they threw in there – Bruce Lee. Yes. I did see him in action and I did see him waste a few UFC fighters in the demo. How cool is that? I normally am not into UFC, but Bruce Lee is the man.
Battlefield HardlineFor Ubisoft, there’s definitely some interesting games. Rainbow Six definitely raised some eyebrows and got the blood boiling. Once this game is released and if it holds up, there’s going to be a LOT of happy Tom Clancy fans. The realism of the game really adds to the hostage situation by introducing some bad-ass technology like a drone robot to infiltrate a hostage situation. What looks to add to Clancy’s legacy, is The Division. The trailer for this is amazing where it shows how a house reflects a descent into utter chaos and total urban warfare. Funny enough one of the women shown in the trailer reminds me of Ellie from ‘The Last of Us’. It’s kind of neat to see her have evolved into a badass – even though the games aren’t really related.
Sega offers a new one in the Sonic franchise. Sonic Boom. There was some controversy with the character Knuckles in terms of concept design – but there have been really steep and Sonicintense highs and lows with the fans. I hope it pans out for them. I really do.
Warner Bros. shows some oldies but goodies for 2015 releases. Shadow of Mordor looks fascinating, with which I do believe that the main character is Isildur – but please don’t nerdrage on me for mentioning that. The Witcher III, Arkham, and Mortal Kombat X look badass, and they were even showing this movie theatre format on REALLY BIG SCREENS.
Square Enix has some new releases coupled with a legion of their tried and franchises. To illustrate, they’ve taken the old THQ franchises: Metro 2033 and Homefront and expanded upon them with respective titles as Homefront: The Revolution and Metro 2033: Redux. The legion of oldies are Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy: Agito and Theatrhythm, Hitman: Sniper, and Kingdom Hearts 2.5: Final Mix.
What the hell, Square Enix.

At least Murder: Soul Suspect tends to be promising. You play a murdered dick (stop laughing) who must track your own killer of whom you find out is a serial killer. You have ghosty powers of absorption, deduction, and reading red writing on the wall like Daniel from the Bible. It looks cool and the main character reminds me of Brent Spiner. He’s pale like him too – at least like Data.
Capcom Pro TourCapcom releases sequels – Ho hum. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Anthology, Ultra Street Fighter IV….
Konami’s main feature looks like Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain featuring Keifer Sutherland. Hell, Solid Snake is Jack Bauer is whatever cool mutha that Keifer played. The dude was a VAMPIRE and Jack Bauer. That would be cool to have a vampire Jack Bauer. I do miss David Hayter. It’s like telling me I can have Benedict Cumberbatch and David Tennant but can choose ONLY ONE. You kill me, Kojima.
