Dragon*Con 2015 in Review: The Bar Crawl

GameStop, Inc.

I’ve experienced a Con before, a few actually. CHI-FI, C2E2, and Wizard World, all unbelievable experiences in their own right. Going into Dragon*Con I was under the impression that my previous Con visits would have provided me with enough XP points to prepare me for what was about to happen. I am here to tell you that nothing could have been further from the truth. Thanks to FanboyNation I was able to attend the most unbelievable, fun, and ridiculous Con I have attended to date: Dragon*Con.

From the moment the events started I knew it was a bit…..different. I have never had a bar-crawl to kick off a Con. Well, that’s exactly what happened with Dragon*Con. It was a meet and greet for newcomers and Dragon*Con veterans alike to link up with other media types and get the lay of the land while drinking a few beers or your nectar of choice. It is certainly helpful because the land is pretty spread out, but we will get into that later. The bar-crawl is also where you get to meet some of the awesome Dragon*Con staff.  The tour guides were Dan and Deena and they were both great guides.

20150905_182209The crawl started at the Hyatt and we walked to the Westin we ended the night at the Pulse bar inside of the Marriott where the Cosplayers were out and everyone was drinking and having a great time. There is so much to learn about the ins and outs of the hotels and how to get around as quickly as possible, but in retrospect after having been in the thick of it all there is no getting around quickly at Dragon*Con.

I would suggest, even if you don’t think you need to take the tour that you do so. The staff is funny and engaging. They embolden you to ask questions and they are very resourceful. They will advise you to get the Dragon*Con app and you should take their advice. It definitely comes in handy. The tour is also a very good way of meeting people especially if you are new to the scene.

The Dragon*Con staff aren’t the only funny people you get to meet during the crawl either, the bartenders are great as well. One bartender made it very clear that they were waiting on us Con folk all week! She didn’t say as much, but obviously the tips during Dragon*Con are awesome. Everyone was warm and welcoming. The bar-crawl was a great primer for what was to come during Dragon*Con because we did a little walking from one hotel to the next and boy was there walking to be done during Dragon*Con.

To be continued…
