After the sucess of the simulcast of The Day of the Doctor in 94 countries, Jenna Coleman, Matt Smith, Showrunner Stephen Moffat and Director Nick Hurran were finally able to open up about the episode before “we get quiet in 10 seconds due to the Christmas episode.” Moffat was candid about his spread of misdirection and blatant lies regarding the 50th Episode. “If the Americans had managed to pull this off, they’d never stop talking about it,” Moffat teased.

Matt Smith was all smiles, but did admit to being very sad to leave the show. He seemed uncomfortable with clips playing of the episode, commenting “God, I’ve got a ridiculous face.” The crowd assured him that he did not. Smith reflected on joining the group of past Doctors. When asked if there was just certain knowledge a Doctor knew and if they ever got together and talked about it, Smith had a jovial response. “Yes, we’ve got a group and we meet every Thursday for tea and talk about timey wimey stuff,” he joked.

DW Matt Smith“I will tell you this,” Moffat stated, “no matter how far down you dig or where you look, you will not hear a negative story about Matt Smith.” Moffat discussed his friendship with Matt Smith and the dearth of his presence on set. “He would often be on set earlier than needed, just because his presence energized everyone.”

When the subject turned to Peter Capaldi, things grew a bit more secretive. Jenna Coleman admitted to working with Capaldi for the Christmas special, but said nothing more.

“I was just pleased I got to feature his eyes in the 50th,” Moffat said, referencing the brief moment where the next Doctor was featured in The Day of the Doctor.

When the subject turned to Alex Kingston as River Song, Moffat commented that he felt her story was done. “If I find a good story for her, she may be back.” He waxed poetically on the idea of her and Capaldi together to which Matt Smith replied, “Do I at least get a courtesy email if another man is going after my wife?” “Did David?” Moffat countered. “It’s different,” Smith replied, much to the delight of the audience.

“Daleks are the best monster on the show,” Moffat said. “If you don’t agree with me, you’re wrong. You’re entitled to your own opinion but you are wrong.” Matt Smith lovingly challenged the statement with, “actually, I think the Weeping Angels are the most terrifying. They’ve taken the most from my Doctor.” Though Moffat is credited with creating the Weeping Angels for Doctor Who, he did not hesitate to tell Matt Smith again that he was wrong.

The words of Stephen Moffat still ring through the hall, embracing the true accomplishment at hand. “Let’s be proud that the daftest little British show in the world just conquered it.”
