We suspected there to be plenty of Easter Eggs in Constantine, as that seems to be the trend in comic based television shows of late. What we didn’t expect was to see them in the trailer, or that one would have come from far left field. A new international trailer for the highly anticipated Hellblazer adaptation has just that in the form of Ibis The Invincible’s Ibistick, seen just behind Doctor Fate’s helmet. Ibis is not a super well known character to many but the more hardcore of fans, and it’s really cool that they will (hopefully) be featuring him in some capacity. And I’ll watch anything with Doctor Fate, even that Smallville two-parter.
This does bring up so many possibilities, so many of the more obscure characters that could be featured down the line. DC has a wealth of magic based heros AND villains that could work on television, from the obvious in Zatanna, to the even more obscure than Ibis in the form of Kulak. I, personally, would love to see Black Alice, the Phantom Stranger, Kid Eternity, or even Gentleman Ghost if they could tweak him enough to make him work in this universe they’re creating. Doctor Thirteen would be a great counterpoint to Constantine if they decided to bring him in.
This trailer just bursts with possibilities, and certainly whets my apatite for the fall, with the show appropriately starting up just in time for Halloween. We’ll probably have more trailers before then, with even more Easter Eggs showing us what we can expect, even the unexpected.
