Disney Legend Andreas Deja Talks About His new Short Film, ‘Muskha‘ Just Prior to attending D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA.
Iconic animator and director Andreas Deja is thrilled to announce the release of a new music video for the enchanting song ‘Mushka’s Lullaby,’ one of the final works by the legendary Disney songwriter Richard M. Sherman, known for his Academy Award®-winning contributions to ‘Mary Poppins‘. Featured as the end credit song in Deja’s directorial debut short film ‘Mushka‘, the hauntingly beautiful track is performed by versatile vocalist Holly Sedillos and is a key element of the film’s poignant orchestral score, crafted by composer Fabrizio Mancinelli.
The music video, created by the film’s editor and co-producer Roger Viloria, intertwines clips from Deja’s meticulously hand-drawn animation with nostalgic behind-the-scenes footage from the recording sessions. This includes scenes of Sedillos and the 60-piece orchestra that recorded the ‘Mushka‘ soundtrack at the Synchron Stage in Vienna.
Deja expressed his excitement about the video and Sherman’s contribution, saying, “I’m thrilled to showcase the beautiful ‘Mushka’s Lullaby’ and celebrate the legacy of one of the world’s greatest songwriters, my friend Richard M. Sherman. I’m immensely grateful to our amazing team on ‘Mushka‘—we’re so fortunate to have had Richard contribute ‘Mushka’s Lullaby’ to our film.”
Deja, a Disney Legend with over 30 years at Walt Disney Animation Studios, has been behind some of animation’s most beloved characters, including Scar in ‘The Lion King‘, Gaston in ‘Beauty and the Beast‘, and Jafar in ‘Aladdin.’ His directorial debut, ‘Mushka‘, is a 28-minute animated short that has garnered international praise since its premieres at the San Francisco International Film Festival and the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film in 2023. The film has won multiple awards, including ‘Best Animation’ at the San Jose International Short Film Festival and the ‘Kids Choice Award/Best Animation’ at the Palm Springs International Short Fest.
‘Mushka‘ tells the touching story of Sarah, a young Ukrainian girl faced with the choice of raising an orphaned Siberian tiger cub or leaving him to face the wild alone. The film’s soundtrack, including ‘Mushka’s Lullaby,’ is available digitally from Lakeshore Records.
Deja will be attending the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA, from August 9 through 11, where he will discuss ‘Mushka‘ and his illustrious career in animation.
