During the press day for the Disney+ debut of ‘Moana 2‘ at Disney Animation in Burbank, CA, I had the privilege of interviewing David G. Derrick Jr. and Jason Hand. Derrick, who is part Samoan, shared how his personal connection to his heritage allowed him to infuse his ancestry into the film, providing an authentic and deeply meaningful touch to the animated sequel. Both Derrick and
Hand stressed the importance of respectfully incorporating all aspects of Polynesian cultures into the creation of *Moana 2*. They were both committed to ensuring that every detail, from the story to the animation, paid homage to the rich traditions and history of the Polynesian people.
