Directors David G. Derrick Jr. and Jason Hand Talk ‘Moana 2‘ Now Streaming on Disney+ with its soundtrack available on all other streaming platforms.
During the press day for the Disney+ debut of ‘Moana 2‘ at Disney Animation in Burbank, CA, I had the privilege of interviewing David G. Derrick Jr. and Jason Hand. Derrick, who is part Samoan, shared how his personal connection to his heritage allowed him to infuse his ancestry into the film, providing an authentic and deeply meaningful touch to the animated sequel. Both Derrick and Hand stressed the importance of respectfully incorporating all aspects of Polynesian cultures into the creation of *Moana 2*. They were both committed to ensuring that every detail, from the story to the animation, paid homage to the rich traditions and history of the Polynesian people. This cultural authenticity was crucial in bringing the film to life in a way that would resonate with audiences while staying true to its roots.
Sadly, Dana Ledoux Miller, the third director of ‘Moana 2‘, was not able to attend the press day. However, Derrick and Hand spoke highly of her contributions to the project, highlighting how her expertise and vision were essential to shaping the direction of the film.
‘Moana 2‘ reunites Moana and Maui three years after their first adventure, embarking on an expansive new voyage alongside a diverse crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana sets off on a journey across the far seas of Oceania, navigating dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced before. Directed by David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, and produced by Christina Chen and Yvett Merino, ‘Moana 2‘ also boasts a stunning soundtrack featuring music by Grammy® winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foaʻi, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina. The blend of rich cultural storytelling, breathtaking animation, and memorable music is sure to make *Moana 2* an unforgettable experience for audiences.
