Delivery ManBased off the original screenplay “Starbuck,” written by Ken Scott and Martin Petit, Delivery Man re-tells the story of the original French-Canadian comedy integrated in American culture. Delivery Man stars Vince Vaughn as David Wozniak, a loveable guy who has a reputation of letting people down. David works as a delivery driver for his family’s meat company, and is struggling to pay off a large debt he owes to some bad people. On top of that he learns his girlfriend Emma (Cobie Smulders) is pregnant and wants nothing more to do with him until he “gets a life,” the stakes only get higher when David discovers that his time as a sperm donor lead to him being the biological father of 533 kids, of which 142 of them are suing to learn his identity. To help with the lawsuit, David’s best friend Brett (Chris Pratt) returns to his law career to defend him. Although the situation is a bit ridiculous and unbelievable, it turns out to be the jump start David needs to get his life together.

Delivery Man is a feel good movie that puts parenting, specifically fatherhood, in a critical perspective. Vince Vaughn brings his usual comedic charm and wit, and also displays his great range during the ridiculously dramatic scenes that could only happen to a person who has 533 kids. Cobie Smolders has an amazing ability to capture the gravity of a situation but also the comedy in it. Chris Pratt’s performance perfectly captures his character’s shortcomings and latent potential. The casting in its entirety is on point in every sense, from Bobby Moynihan and Simon Delaney as David’s brothers, to every one of David’s kids. The creative camera work gives it an indie feel and progression of the story flows very well. The music compliments well, and the premise is refreshingly unique. Overall it is a well put together movie in every sense.

Delivery Man is about a delivery man and former sperm donor who is the father to over 500 kids and is stacked with a veteran comedic cast; it has the makings of a raunchy comedy but delivers a surprisingly heartwarming film that has you rooting for the underdogs from beginning to end. The story is unique and allows for some incredibly awkward and touching moments. The cast works well together and you can really see the chemistry in some of the more awkward and emotional scenes. Delivery Man does get a bit predictable and cliché in its general progression, but the strong performances, truly original situations, and uplifting story more than compensate for it. Delivery Man brings the funny, tugs at the heart, and provides a genuinely good time.

Delivery Man, opens Friday, November 22, 2013. #DeliveryMan
