Leaked this morning to FanboyNation via a highly regarded source well within DC Comics, Stephanie Brown is finally entering the pages of DC’s Nu52, albeit not in her most recognizable form. This new Stephanie Brown will be “African-American, and in a relationship with a prominent female Teen Titan”. Stephanie Brown’s return will be in the guise of Spoiler, in the pages of Teen Titans, not in Batman: Eternal as previously announced.
A very vocal minority has been shouting for her return ever since the Nu52 first began, appearing at conventions dressed as the hero, going on message boards and forums to post their feelings about this seemingly forgotten character. And with the heightened racial debate fueling much talk of diversity in comics, this news should please just about everybody.
When reached for comment, Didio remarked, “The fans have been clamoring for Stephanie’s return, while also asking for a more diverse DC universe, and we’ve listened. We feel this should please most fans of our properties, and we are excited to tell her story.”
Frequent forum poster StephanieBrownLives238 stated, “What the hell? Yeah I wanted Stephanie back, but not like this. This is a slap in the face to her true fans, and more proof that DC hates us all.”
The NU Stephanie Brown will make her debut later this year in the pages of Teen Titans, written by Scott Lobdell with art by Rob Liefeld.
