David Twohy is a man of many talents in Hollywood, writer, director, producer, you name it, he has done it in the industry. From hits like The Fugitive and G.I. Jane to the first $100 million movie with Waterworld, Twohy is a man who loves what he does.
His latest film, Riddick, which is the third installment of in the Universal Pictures franchise, stars Vin Diesel in the title role, Katee Sackhoff and Dahl and former WWE Superstar, Dave Bautista, in this sci-fi adventure.
“I grew up on science fiction films and novels, said Twohy, the writer and director of Riddick. “We shot this film in 48 days, It took 65 days to shoot Pitch Black, 85 days to shoot Chronicles, but this one was one we were able to get done quickly on a limited budget, like the films I grew on.”
Twohy fashions himself a filmmaker, he’s said all writers want to eventually direct and had no delusions of wanted to be pigeonholed in just one aspect of film making.
“The only problem with directing your own work, is that you have no one to blame the interpretation of your work if the movie is bad, it’s all on you,” chuckles Twohy, while leaning back on his couch.
Riddick has been 13 years in the making, with the duo of Twohy and Diesel continuing on with the franchise. Both believe the story is not over and there are still many more stories to tell with this particular anti-hero.
“I have always seen this was a five film franchise,” said Twohy, “There are still more stories to tell and I don’t think Riddick is done yet.”
Twohy said that over time it has become easier to work with Diesel on these films, because they are familiar with how the other works. He says that Diesel wants to be the best actor possible and put out his best performance into every film he works on.
David Twohy continues to work and strive to make better films each time out, with his next film already in production and Riddick opening nationwide on September 6, 2013, we can only expect greater things to come.
