David Ortiz has released his new line of cigars, Big Papi under the supervision of El Artista Cigars. The Dominican based cigar company that has been in operation since 1956 has now released a medium-bodied smoke filled dream that is sure to be a hit this holiday season.
I smoked my first Big Papi cigar after Thanksgiving dinner, which I paired with a Woodford Reserve Double Oaked whiskey, served neat. The cigar never got harsh as I changed my smoking style from long slow, drags to frequent puffing. As most cigar smokers know, frequent puffing will cause the tobacco to burn faster, changing the flavoring causing coarse or burning sensation on your tongue or the back of your throat.
Most will be pleased to learn that Big Papi is on the lighter side of the medium scale as the hint of cream flavor from the Criollo 98 binder ever-so slightly eclipses the imprints of chestnut and pepper from the Ecuadorian Habano Claro wrapper. The Dominican and Nicaraguan filler will delight the most fickle of cigar smokes.
Having been released in the latter part of 2016, Big Papi will be a major contender for Cigar of the Year in 2017 and is the perfect stocking stuffer.
