Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.
It’s kind of a given that the Netflix exclusive Daredevil series would get another season. The show became an over night fan-favorite and critical darling, not to mention one of the highest pirated series in history. Unfortunately it looks as if Steven DeKnight is leaving the series he helped become a smash hit.
Variety is reporting that yes, Daredevil has been renewed, but with Doug Petrie (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, American Horror Story) and Marco Ramirez (Sons of Anarchy) serving as its new showrunners. I am very curious to learn the reasons behind his departure, but also look forward to see what Petrie and Ramirez, who worked closely with DeKnight and Drew Goddard on the series, do with the show. Petrie, Ramirez, Goddard, and Jeph Loeb will executive produce the 2nd season. I assume that all of the main actors will be returning in 2016.
That’s all we know so far, but we’ll bring you more news as it comes in.
UPDATE:
Marvel has published their official announcement with this quote from DeKnight:
“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season,” DeKnight explains, “I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.”
