Cupid Is Not the Only One Breaking Hearts On “Arrow”

GameStop, Inc.

Cupid is back on Arrow and she’s shooting everyone’s hearts with arrows, literally.

The last time Cupid, aka Carrie Cutter, was seen was in season three’s Suicidal Tendencies where we see Cupid falling for Floyd Lawton, aka Deadshot. Cupid was created by writer Andrew Kreisberg and artist David Baron. She first appeared in Green Arrow/Black Canary #15 and is known for being obsessed with the Green Arrow (if that wasn’t already obvious). Amy Gumenick has done an amazing job portraying the live action version of Cupid and Broken Hearts is no exception. She is beautiful, athletic, has a way with words, and has crazy eyes that can be seen a mile away. Unfortunately, her presence in the episode was overshadowed by the trial of Damian Darhk.

Most of season four so far focused on Oliver Queen’s campaign to be the next mayor of Star City and it was a great idea for the show. Oliver, who was always working from the shadows to protect his city, wanted to do something different and protect his city publicly. The problem was that it was boring. It was like watching the second trilogy of Star Wars. There were too many meetings and counseling about information we didn’t really care for. We did not need to know what the requirements for mayor were and if Oliver was qualified. Donald Trump has no political experience and he’s currently in the lead to represent the Republicans for the Presidential Election (and unfortunately, that’s not a fictional story). Now instead of politics, Arrow is teaching us about the judicial system and why they’re having trouble putting Damian in jail. On the bright side, Quentin Lance gave a heartfelt speech when he showed his dedication to protecting his daughter, Laurel Lance. A man who we have known for so long to follow the law and bring justice to criminals was willing to help a criminal because it meant keeping Laurel safe.

While Cupid was shooting arrows into people’s hearts, the biggest heart-breaker of the episode was Felicity Smoak. Felicity’s speech on love was a powerful moment in the episode and it was heartbreaking to know that someone so faithful has been lied to so many times. Oliver keeping his secret about his son was bound to have negative effects and they started last episode when Felicity returned the ring. Now, Felicity takes it a step farther on Broken Hearts by leaving Team Arrow with no hint of returning.

“I don’t want to let you go, but I am already gone.”
– Felicity Smoak

Emily Kinney returns to the DC Television Universe to reprise her role as Brie Larven, aka the Bug-Eyed Bandit, in the next episode of ArrowBeacon of Hope. Let’s see how Team Arrow fairs against this villain without Felicity watching their backs.

The Verdict

Amy Gumenick gives a great performance as usual as Cupid and the drama between Felicity and Oliver leaves viewers wanting more.
