Famed novelist and comic book writer (Wolverine, X-Men, Nightwing, Green Arrow), Benjamin Percy talks about his latest film, a coming of age story entitled, ‘Summering‘ in theaters on Friday, August 12, 2022.
Benjamin Percy has written comics for DC and Marvel, has had his fiction and nonfiction stories published in Esquire (where he is a contributing editor), GQ, Time, Men’s Journal ,Outside, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine, Ploughshares, Tin House, McSweeney’s and Paris Review. Percy’s honors include the Whiting Award, an NEA fellowship, the Plimpton Prize, two Pushcart Prizes and inclusion in Best American Short Stories, 100 Years of the Best American Short Stories and Best American Comics.
Now, Percy’s most resent work, a coming of age film entitled ‘Summering‘ follows the final day just as four friends are set off to start middle school, realizing that their lives will be changed forever.
Co-written and directed by James Ponsoldt, ‘Summering‘ is able to capture the moment when you realize that life presses forward, no matter how much you want a time period to be frozen and preserved for all eternity. Percy’s story and having a daughter in the age range helps elevate this family film into a discussion between parents and their pre-teens.
Percy and Ponsoldt bridge the generation gap as parents who watch ‘Summering‘ with their children will be able to relate their own experiences through adolescence just as their children are entering that influential time in their lives.
