The CW has released a trailer for the last few episodes of The Flash, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come, BUT, they also released this image, with no accompanying text to explain it. The photo, from the next episode, Grodd Lives, features a guy in military dress wearing a familiar looking mask. Could Checkmate be coming to television?
Checkmate in the comics is a division of Task Force X, a secret covert action organization with a chess theme, and it was quite awesome. They’ve had two series since their creation by Paul Kupperberg and Steve Erwin in Action Comics #598, the most recent being the post Infinite Crisis spy-fi series written by Greg Rucka.
According to Rucka, “Take a big chunk of The OMAC Project, take the concept of “Who Watches the Watchmen?” and throw in some James Bond and you’ve got Checkmate.” I’m curious to see how they play it in the show.
The Flash airs Tuesday nights at 8 on the CW.
