Burke Swanson takes us through the decades as George McFly in ‘Back to the Future: The Musical‘ running from now through December 1 at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood.
A musical for the decades, ‘Back to the Future: The Musical‘ has arrived in Los Angeles, CA. Making its West Coast debut at the historic Pantages Theatre from November 5 to December 1, 2024, the production will also make a stop at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa from December 26, 2024, to January 5, 2025. With the energy and excitement of this beloved story, this stage adaptation of the iconic 1985 film is sure to captivate both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
In a rare moment, the title of the show itself is almost as famous as the actors performing it. The ‘Back to the Future‘ franchise has left an indelible mark on pop culture, especially here in Southern California, where the film’s famous locations—like Doc Brown’s House and the Twin Pines Mall—are etched in the memories of moviegoers worldwide.
This musical is based on the Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment film and features a book by Bob Gale, who co-wrote the original movie trilogy. The score includes new music and lyrics by Emmy and Grammy Award-winning composer Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy Award-winner Glen Ballard, along with classic hits from the film, including “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B. Goode.” Bob Gale himself has even shared his excitement for the stage adaptation, saying, “To paraphrase Marty McFly, you guys are ready for this, and your kids are gonna love it (too)!”
‘Back to the Future: The Musical‘ features an incredible cast of seasoned Broadway veterans, bringing these iconic characters to life with passion and energy. Caden Brauch stars as Marty McFly, Don Stephenson plays Doc Brown, Zan Berube portrays Lorraine Baines, and Burke Swanson steps into the shoes of George McFly. We down with Swanson, who brings George McFly to life in this new stage production, to learn more about his role, the challenges of embodying such a beloved character, and what audiences can expect from this thrilling musical experience.
We’ll dove into how Swanson stays healthy while performing, particularly when balancing the physical demands of dancing and singing in a role like George McFly—who’s known for being a character with, shall we say, two left feet. Plus, we ask if the cast’s visit to Universal Studios will break out into song and dance in front of the clock tower.
