‘Bottoms‘ is raunchy, teen, sex, comedy throwback to the late 1990s that revitalizes risque humor in a hypersensitive society.
It has been a long time that a raunchy comedy that was actually funny has been released and ‘Bottoms‘ ups the humor that has been missing in this hypersensitive, easily offended and often overly offended Western world we currently suffer through.
Co-written by star Rachel Sennott and Emma Seligman, who also directed the film, capture the language used by high school girls perfectly. How do I know this? I used to be a teacher and teens think that we live in the classroom and when we are in between classes they forget we are still in earshot of their conversations.
Former NFL Super Bowl Champion, Marshawn Lynch’s character as the Mr. G, is the most relatable character for any male secondary school teacher that knows exactly what’s going on but keeps his head down because the less we know, the less we have to be involved in the lives of the students.
Josie (Ayo Edebiri) and her best friend PJ (Sennott) are two loser lesbians desperate to get laid by their dream, “it girl” cheerleaders, after tapping closet case and MILF banger, football team captain and closet case, boyfriend, Jeff (Nicholas Galitzine), the girls devise a plan to get out of trouble with the school principal by starting a self-defense club to detract sexual assault offenders.
Mr. G signs off on being the club advisor allowing Josie and PJ to inadvertently create a support group for survivors as well as their contemporaries who feel unheard.
Naturally, the two friends are exposed, but that doesn’t stop them from saving the football team by defending their honor during the big rivalry game.
‘Bottoms‘ is hilariously raw, humorous and delightful in their action sequences. The constant poking fun at the football team who only run around campus in their uniforms, flopping around like English Premier League soccer stars adds to raucous good time.
‘Bottoms‘ is a queer comedy that is not just for a queer audience. It is everything that abomination, ‘Bros,’ wished it could have been.
