‘Blacklight’ is Taken 17 and Liam Neeson is Still on Fire

GameStop, Inc.

Blacklight‘ is Basically Taken 17 and Liam Neeson is Still on Fire this Friday, February 11, 2022 in Theaters.

Liam Neeson has been making virtually the same three movies since 2009 and ‘Blacklight‘ is no different as it keeps the tradition of ‘Taken‘ alive and well.

Let’s go through the checklist: Liam Neeson is a black ops expert, CHECK! Has a Millennial, unappreciative daughter who doesn’t see that her father is looking out for her, CHECK! Is betrayed by a close friend or colleague who has been his support for several decades, CHECK! Has a Generation Alpha child who is enamored with him, CHECK! Has a pseudo-surrogate Millennial bring his Boomer ways into the 21st Century, DOUBLE CHECK!

In ‘Taken‘ 17…er…’Blacklight‘ Liam Neeson is Travis Block, a super secret operative working off the books for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) under his Vietnam combat buddy, Chief Gabriel Robinson (Aidan Quinn). A man who practically pleasures himself to the thought of being the next J. Edgar Hoover.

Agent Dusty Crane (Taylor John Smith) snaps when Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez inspired character, Sofia Flores (Mel Jarnson) is killed by a hit-and-run driver following a Progressive Political rally. Crane refuses to go in for psychological evaluations after attempting to contact ingenue reporter, Mira Jones (Emmy Raver-Lampman) in exposing all the FBI’s dirty tricks.

When Jones’ story is stolen by her unscrupulous editor, Drew (Tim Draxl) and winds up dead, the only person she can now trust is Block, who warned her to let the story go. After Block confronts Robinson about leaving Jones be and expunging his black ops deeds, close friends become bitter rivals in what could have easily ended peacefully, with a nice, quiet retirement for Block.

Director and Co-Writer, Mark Williams has worked with Neeson on other projects as either director, writer or producer with ‘The Marksman‘ and ‘Honest Thief”, his eye for suspense and action make for an enjoyable film that makes me want to see it a second time. Although, one camera trick used to make it appear that Neeson is paying attention to detail, giving it an almost photographic effect, did get annoying at times, it did not detract from the story or the pleasure of watching Liam Neeson do what he does best and that is be an espionage type character looking out for the best interest of his family.

Blacklight‘ hits theaters on Friday, February 11, 2022.

  • Overall Score
3.5

Summary

Liam Neeson does what Liam Neeson does best as a special agent/black ops type doing whatever it takes to protect his family and country in ‘Blacklight‘.
