Bisping Heads to Brazil to Face Belfort

Following the announcement of being named International Fighter of the Year as presented by the World MMA Awards, English Mixed Martial Arts Practitioner, “The Count” Michael Bisping is headed to Brazil this morning for one of the biggest fights of his career.

On Saturday, January 19, 2013, Bisping will be facing the one man who stands in his way of obtaining a shot at UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson “The Spider” Silva, and that man is “The Phenom” Vitor Belfort.

Bisping, who holds a record of 23 wins and 4 defeats, has no apprehensions of heading down to birth place of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), in fact The Count is beyond focused in taking on Belfort (21-10-0) in his home country.

“I’m a professional fighter and that’s what it says in my CV. I want to be the best in the world and to get a shot at the belt if I got to go to down to Brazil and beat Vitor. If I can’t beat Vitor, then I’m not worthy of a title fight,” said Bisping in a phone interview with FanboyNation.

Ever the focused fighter, The Count has been studying The Phenom, who is known for his fast hands and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) expertise. Bisping said that he has been working on his head movement and has made great strides with his wrestling a BJJ, claiming to be mentally and physically prepared.

“Once the cage door closes nothing else matters except you and your opponent. Some fighters need the crowd on their side but I just focus on the job at hand,” said Bisping.

A dangerous South Paw, who has been competing professionally since 1996, Belfort, who nearly broke Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones’ arm in his last fight at UFC 152, is dropping down to Middleweight for this bout.

Belfort, is the obvious crowd favorite, with his countrymen, but this has no effect on Bisping, who has more-often-than-not been the “heel,” in his career.

“I truly believe I’ll go down there and win. I’ve fought plenty of guys in the UK as the fan favorite and it’s only fair to be the quote end quote ‘bad guy.’ I’m excited to fight in Brazil and put on a great show for the Brazilian fans in the birth place of mixed martial arts,” said Bisping.

There are several detractors who feel Bisping does not deserve a title shot at Silva, but his win loss record speak for itself. Several fighters had refused to fight Bisping in this fight that will be aired on FX. The Count has only been stopped once by Dan Henderson and had three losses by decision, one of which, a controversial decision given to Chael Sonnen, who recently moved up to the Light Heavyweight division.

“I’ve proven I’m one of the best in the world. Sometimes people don’t like what I have to say and don’t like to view my record. To any detractors keep booing, because I love it,” said Bisping who continues about his opponent, “Vitor is a great fighter, he’s proven himself in the cage and is a great man, but I look forward in beating the s**t out of him and shutting everyone else up.”

UFC on FX will air the fights 6:00 p.m. PST
