Tonight’s main event pits Russian Andrey Koreshkov against Adam McDonough in the Welterweight Tournament finals.
“Big John” McCarthy gives the instructions, the bell sounds and it’s on! Koreshkov and McDonough exchange leg kicks during the feeling out period of the first round, but hands immediately begin flying.
McDonough attempts a head kick, but Koreshkov dodges and lands a right hand that eventually set up a spinning heel kick that McDonough was able to block!
Koreshkov goes on the offensive, with a haymaker, but McDonough avoids the combination leading to him executing a double leg take down, but Koreshkov quickly pops back up to his feet.
The Russian drives in a knee, forcing McDonough to clinch and drive Koreshkov into the cage, who escapes quickly. This is the first fight tonight that made it out of the first round as McDonough dances away the last 10 seconds before returning to his corner.
McDonough lunges in for a single leg take but Koreshkov was able to to avoid the take down. Koreshkov connected with a brutal right hand, charging in for the finish, but the American was able to shuck him off and regain his composure as a small group in the crowd briefly attempt to start a U-S-A chant.
Kreshkov ends up in the top position after another failed single leg attempt, spins around, throws a few punches, but McDonough was able to escape back to his feet. it appears that Koreshkov is up on the score card as he ate a spinning heel kick driving him into the cage as the Russian follows him down landing in his butterfly guard allowing McDonough to pop back up to his feet, but the Russian is relentless as he chases the American around the cage ending this round on their feet.
Third and final round, McDonough is the first to strike with a double left jab, but Koreshkov connects with an overhand right and drives McDonough into the cage, but quickly return to the center of the ring. The chant of U-S-A begins again as Koreshkov connects with a left jab to McDonough’s nose.
McDonough attempts another single leg, but Koreshkov sprawls and lands a couple of quick punches before returning to their feet. Koreshkov ends up in the top position as eventually making it into McDonough’s guard. McDonough is holding on for dear life, but with 33 seconds left, “Big John” stands them up!
This one goes to the judges and with a score of 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 your winner and moving on to a Welterweight title fight is Andrey Koreshkov!
