The streaming services are constantly in battle with the studios and networks for premiere content, and Netflix has just staged a coup that will place Cary Fukunaga‘s latest film Beasts of No Nation in theaters as well as its streaming platform on October 16th, 2015. Fukunaga most famously directed all 8 episodes of True Detective‘s first season, and now will be taking the plague of child soldiers that are exploited to commit brutal acts at the behest of manipulative warlords.
Beasts of No Nation stars Idris Elba as the Commandant, a brutal warlord, and we see in the trailer the amount of pressure his character puts on a child in order to do his murderous commands. The film will play at the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals before hitting select Landmark Theaters and Netflix’s streaming service on October 16th.
The official synopsis for Beasts of No Nation:
Beasts of No Nation is based on the highly acclaimed novel by Nigerian author Uzodinma Iweala, bringing to life the gripping tale of Agu, a child soldier torn from his family to fight in the civil war of an African country. Newcomer Abraham Attah gives a stunning portrayal of Agu, while Elba dominates the screen in the role of Commandant, a warlord who takes in Agu and instructs him in the ways of war.
