When anything is produced in the Bruce Timm art style from the DCAU, especially Batman, I only hear Kevin Conroy’s voice as the Dark Knight and infact, every other character from those animated series reaching all the way through Justice League Unlimited. So when Batman: The Adventure Continues was a reading option, you know I had to drop everything and check it out.
In this first issue, Allen Burnett and Paul Dini take us through Batman’s rogues gallery but several other DC rogues leading us on an adventure through Gotham City that is fit for an entire Arkham game, which includes a missing prominent hero!
“Fans familiar with the Batman of The New Batman/Superman Adventures will be right up to speed,” says Paul Dini. “Alan and I approached the writing with the idea that we were doing the season you might have seen if we had not put the series aside to do Batman Beyond.”
“What is different, however, is that we’re going back to cover certain gaps in the original series, events that didn’t have a bearing on the series at the time, but now do,” continued Alan Burnett. “In other words, there will be secret histories that will turn Batman’s world upside down. Things that no one knew were out there, until now.”
The art and colors by Ty Templeton and Monica Kubina respectively make me excited for every page turn. Frankly, the problem in try9ing to review this issue of Batman: The Adventure Continues is that virtually every page indicates a spoiler. Who’s come back to Gotham, who’s visiting Gotham, what’s been stolen and who a former love interest is involved.
I wish I could say more but dang this has got to be a short one because other than what’s already been revealed in the synopsis of a giant robot that looks like one having appeared in a classic cartoon from days gone by that steals an entire room from a Wayne Enterprises laboratory, everything else is a giveaway.
The reason why the story gets only an 8 for Batman: The Adventure Continues #1 is because 22 pages is not enough and honestly, each issue should be a giant sized one!
