This weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting the writers of the graphic novel and screenplay for Bad Kids Go To Hell and Bad Kids Go 2 Hell, Matthew Spradlin and Barry Wernick. To be honest, it wasn’t the booth or the trailer playing that caught my attention. It was the extremely tall man in with a Day of the Dead mask, wearing the BEST pimp coat I have ever seen (not that I have seen many of them… but it was still pretty damn cool) AND Jesus, yes, I said Jesus, passing out raffle tickets. Now, having seen this, I HAD to stop and see what the booth was all about. Their costumes had NOTHING to do with the booth, but hey, it was Halloween.
I walk up to the booth and with a big smile, I ask Barry and Matthew to give me a little more information about the movie. They happily obliged. The best thing about this impromptu interview was how genuinely excited these guys were to chat about their work. I have done many interviews and most times, you get a fairly dull explanation of whatever they are pitching because let’s face it, they have been talking about it for however many days, weeks, or even months leading up to the release. These guys, however, spilled the beans with the biggest grins on their faces. It was awesome!
Plot Summary:
Four years have passed since the events that took place at Crestview Academy and now there are new students who have been placed in Saturday Detention. You might be thinking, “Oh, this sounds kind of like The Breakfast Club, but believe me… It’s not. After the teacher assigned to look over the unruly students is locked in some room away from the Library, the students find that they are being picked off one by one. And believe me, it isn’t a pretty death for any of them. Will they make it out of detention? Will any of them survive?
If you haven’t read the first graphic novel or haven’t seen the movie, that’s alright. It turns out that youcould open this graphic novel and not get lost or confused. However, I believe that one should always watch the movies that precede the new one. This also includes if the movie is being rebooted.
The movie, starring some names you may know like Sean Astin, Gina Gershon, and Ben Browder, will be released in the Summer of 2015. I am ready for a new thriller, how about you?
If you see them at the next Con, stop and say hi. Learn a bit more about the movie. You can also go to http://badkidsgotohell.com/ to learn more about it and SHOP til you drop!!! Check it out!
