The Assyrian Arts Institute (AAI) has announced that invitations for its prestigious gala aboard The World mega-yacht in Los Angeles, scheduled for January 12, 2025, will be sent out next week. The organization is also sharing details about its upcoming project, the
Libretto, Diana Farrell.
Gilgamesh opera, which is inspired by the Epic of Gilgamesh—one of the oldest literary works from ancient Mesopotamia and the Assyrian culture.
The highly anticipated world premiere of Derrick Skye’s opera, ‘Gilgamesh‘, will take place on March 28, 2026, at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles County. This groundbreaking production aims to bring to life one of history’s most enduring tales through the art of opera.
Skye, an acclaimed Grammy nominee, has composed an original score that expertly blends traditional Assyrian motifs with contemporary orchestral elements. The libretto, penned by renowned operatic entrepreneur and Assyrian descendant Diana Farrell, captures the timeless essence of the Epic of Gilgamesh while adding modern relevance and emotional depth. Farrell will also direct the production, with Skye serving as the conductor for the premiere.
Under Farrell’s visionary direction, the opera is expected to deliver a stunning visual and auditory experience, featuring elaborate set designs, intricate costumes, and innovative staging that will transport audiences to the ancient world of Mesopotamia.
