All good things must come to an end. Earlier this year, it was announced that Ash vs. Evil Dead, the series picking up after the events of the cult classic Evil Dead films, wouldn’t be returning for a fourth season. But we shouldn’t mourn the fact that Ash vs. Evil Dead is ending. We should celebrate that the bloody blend of comedy and horror extended the world of Evil Dead for three glorious seasons of gory madness. Now all three season of Ash vs. Evil Dead will be coming to Blu-ray/Digital HD combo pack on October 16, 2018 from Lionsgate Home Entertainment — and, of course, just in time for Halloween.
Sam Raimi brought the Evil Dead saga to the big screen with his trilogy of classic films that mashed horror and comedy through a meat grinder to astonishing results. Bruce Campbell returns Ash Williams, who has spent the better part of three decades battling the demonic spirits resurrected through the Necronomicon, better known as The Book of the Dead. In these 30 episodes of new adventures for Ash, he’s joined by a supporting cast of new characters headlined by Ruby (Lucy Lawless), a mysterious and immortal demon that plays on both sides of good and evil; Pablo (Ray Santiago), an eccentric that looks up to the wobbly moral compass of Ash; and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo), a no nonsense tough talking woman whose verbal jabs are only matched by her physical jabs. This ragtag group of misfits will battle the Deadite plague as Ash bumbles his way from victory to failure and back to victory again.
Ash vs. Evil Dead has been such a joyous return to form for fans of the Evil Dead films, such as myself. Part of me is sad that these ghastly comedic adventures won’t continue but I take comfort in knowing that I can place all three seasons of Ash vs. Evil Dead on my shelf alongside all three of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead films. Hail to the king, baby.
