Despite my intense hate for Man of Steel, I’m a fan of Snyder’s work and generally excited to see his films. Army of the Dead is no exception. The sheer volume of zombies, the setting, and a heist is checking off a lot of boxes that get me hyped for movies. Plus throw in Dave Bautista as the lead, and I would have already purchased my tickets if this was releasing in theaters. But thankfully, it’s a Netflix film so it’ll be delivered directly to our entertainment systems on May 21, 2021.
The Army of the Dead teaser trailer has that Snyder flare that alludes to the film’s depth of the content but really doesn’t spoon-feed you anything. We get a glimpse at the extremely rich environment, some potentially sinister characters, and some adrenaline-pumping action. But otherwise, it is definitely a tease. I would not have put together it was a heist movie without the video’s logline.
Considering they seem to be stealing cash and the use of jets, there have to be large swathes of society unaffected by the Zombie outbreak for this heist to be of any value. It’s been years since I’ve seen Dawn of the Dead so maybe the outbreak isn’t as spread out as I thought, but we have about 3 months to wait, and probably at least two more trailers to start piecing it all together.
