The original Amityville movie effectively terrified audiences forty years ago. The story of poltergeist activity terrorizing a family in an idyllic lakeside neighborhood has since spawned sequels, and a remake starring Ryan Reynolds in 2005. Now, four decades later, and just in time for my favorite holiday, something is once again stirring at 112 Ocean ave.
After moving into a new home Belle begins noticing strange, unexplainable activity occurring all around. She starts to suspect her mother hasn’t been completely honest about the house, until her worst fears are confirmed when she finds she’s moved into the infamous Amityville haunting house.
This new film continues the story of one of the most famous haunted houses in US history. The original movie was based on the controversial book by Jay Anson which was “based on a true story”. Amityville: The Awakening was written and directed by Franck Khalfoun (Maniac), and stars horror mainstays Bella Thorne (Scream), Oscar nominee Jennifer Jason Leigh (Single White Female), Cameron Monaghan (Vampire Academy), Taylor Spreitler, Mckenna Grace, and Jennifer Morrison.
Here’s a new clip from the film in which Belle hears strange sounds coming from downstairs and (against all better judgement) decides to investigate.
Amityville: The Awakening was produced by Jason Blum of modern horror masters Blumhouse Productions (Get Out, Insidious, Paranormal Activity), with Daniel Farrands and Casey La Scala co-producing.
Amityville: The Awakening will debut exclusively for free for a limited time to US residents on Google Play on October 12th, 2017 and will also be released by Dimension Films in select theaters just in time for Halloween on October 28th, 2017.
