Jamie Jones of All-4-One talks about their Southern California homecoming with Dru Hill for 90’s R&B Rewind at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts.
I had the pleasure of interviewing Jamie Jones of All-4-One as the Grammy-winning group prepares for their performance at the 90’s R&B Rewind Concert with Dru Hill on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. In our conversation, I also recount with Jones how I’ve known his bandmate, Delious Kennedy, for over a decade, via the Catalina Film Festival, which he co-founded.
During our chat, we also discussed a fascinating piece of All-4-One‘s history—how, at the height of their success, songs were actually pulled from the charts to make room for other tracks that the studio believed would become bigger hits. This practice seems almost unbelievable today, where multiple songs can simultaneously chart in the Top 20, a stark contrast to the industry landscape of the ’90s.
All-4-One, celebrating their 31st anniversary, continues to be an iconic force in R&B. The group skyrocketed to fame with their hit songs like ‘I Can Love You Like That‘, ‘So Much in Love‘, and the unforgettable ‘I Swear‘. ‘I Swear‘ reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and stayed there for an unprecedented time, making it the third most successful single of the Rock era. It was later named one of the greatest love songs of the 20th century by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers and earned a place in the Guinness World Records as the biggest-selling single of 1994.
With more than 20 million albums sold globally and a slew of prestigious awards, including a Grammy, American Music Award, and numerous international honors, All-4-One remains one of the most beloved R&B groups in history. Their music has been featured in iconic films such as ‘Space Jam‘, Disney’s ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame‘, and ‘Mi Familia‘, among others.
