Actress Rebecca Bloom Cracks some ‘Peanut’ Shells

GameStop, Inc.

Every so often a movie comes along and transcends generations. It will touch everyone from the grandparents who remember the first run as children all the way down to their grandchildren who are witnessing a new genesis of a beloved property. In the case of actress Rebecca Bloom, she is apart of that new genesis. That rebirth is The Peanuts Movie based on the Charles M. Schulz property that celebrates 60 years this year.

Rebecca BloomBloom plays the lovable nerdy sidekick Marcie, the associate to the tomboy super jock Peppermint Patty. As the 13th person to  voice the character, Bloom was the perfect fit, but was forced to keep being cast a secret for a few months before the entire cast could be announced.

“I can keep a secret. I was so excited to find out I got the part. It was fun when I got to start telling people and her friends. I got to tell people on the Today Show in New York. and watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade while there,” said Bloom interrupted her recess to speak with FanboyNation.

The Peanuts Movie is only the third project for the 10-year-old and playing Marcie was a dream come true as Bloom relates quite closely to the beloved character, who made her movie debut in 1977’s Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown.

“I knew a little bit about the Peanuts from before because my mom has a few books and I read the Sunday strips but it was really exciting when I found out I was playing Marcie. She’s so cool. I didn’t know what to do with myself I was so amazed. I love her. I like that she loves to read books and I love to read books. We are so much alike, except she’s not very good at sports,” said Bloom who enjoys playing basketball.

Once everyone was cast, Bloom met  her fellow the cast mates to get the feel for each other but each voice was recorded individually. Sessions would run from an hour and a half to 2 house on average with the occasional 15 minutes of ADR to get the right emotion to match what the emotions invoked by the other characters.

“I love voice acting, it’s one of my favorite kind of acting, it’s amazing. I like that even when you’re voice acting you still have to put emotion in it. You have to be familiar with your lines and you don’t have to get fitted for stuff,” said Bloom about the some of the benefits in taking on this role.

Rebecca Bloom is your average, fun-loving kid only with a cooler job than most adults and with how well other critics have received this animated features, she should prepare herself for a sequel.

The Peanuts Movie opens today, nationwide.
