In news that should come as a surprise to no one, it was announced earlier today at CinemaCon that the 8th installment of the Fast & Furious franchise will be hitting theaters on April 14th, 2017. There’s no reason that Universal wouldn’t want more Fast & Furious films as Furious 7 is already the 7th highest grossing film worldwide ever. And the Fast & Furious franchise is fascinating for its long, winding road to the action spectacle it is today. Most of all, the Fast & Furious films are a real testament to diversity on the screen. My hopes for the 8th film would have Kurt Russell returning as Mr. Nobody and rounding up a team, but I just want Kurt Russell having a blast in everything. At this point, there’s no news as to as a writer or director for the film, though we do know Vin Diesel will be returning as a star and producer.
