The granddaddy of all slasher flicks, Psycho is a film that lives up to its immense reputation. Directed by the Master of Suspense Alfred Hitchcock, Psycho is based upon the novel by Robert Bloch which was inspired by the real life crimes of Ed Gein. Nearly everything about this movie is iconic in one way or another – the shower scene, the big reveal, the end, and, of course, the haunting score by Bernard Hermann. In an interesting side note, Hitchcock wanted to leave the shower scene free of music and was later convinced by his wife, Alma Hitchcock, and Hermann to include it. It is arguably the most recognizable music in the history of cinema – even those who’ve never seen Psycho know what those shrieking violins mean.
