12 Matches for U of MMA Fight Night 6, March 30 at the Nokia

GameStop, Inc.

uofmmaLos Angeles, CA – The University of MMA continues to provide action packed shows in its Fight Night series, with the latest installment to explode on March 30, 2014 at Club Nokia at L.A. LIVE. Tickets are now on sale at www.UofMMA.com and www.axs.com.

Headlining University of MMA: Fight Night 6 are two championship matches, in the featherweight (145 lbs.) and light heavyweight (205 lbs.) divisions. At 145 lbs., Jacob Rosales (CSW) will fight Ryan Lilley (Bas Rutten’s Elite MMA) for the vacant University of MMA featherweight championship. Rosales defeated Ian Quinto (Defiant Gym / The Yard Muay Thai) by TKO at Fight Night 4 to advance to the University of MMA featherweight championship tournament finals. Lilley, who also originally appeared in the tournament, earns his title shot off a punishing third-round KO victory at Bas Rutten’s The Art of MMA event in January.

The second University of MMA title match pits reigning light heavyweight champion Jerell Cephas (Xtreme Couture) against Ozzy Diaz (NZT Pankration) in Cephas’ first title defense. Cephas wrested the championship at Fight Night 2 with a devastating second-round KO. Sporting a 3-1 record (all at the U of MMA), Diaz rides a two-fight win streak (both by second-round submissions) into his title shot.

In what looks to be one of the most anticipated fights of the night, Dean Bo Moskowitz (House of Champions) will face Shohei Yamamoto (CSW). Moskowitz returns to the U after a three-show hiatus, having last challenged for the then-vacant University of MMA welterweight championship. Since then, the young Israeli has reinvented his training and strategy. Meanwhile, Yamamoto has steadily made an undeniable name for himself, building a 3-0 record, all first-round finishes, with two of those at the U.

The lightweight division will host a showdown of showmen, as Pious Enilolobo, Jr. (BJMUTA/Flying Kick Martial Arts) takes on the outspoken Michael Jackson (Systems Training Center). Enilolobo, Jr. won fans’ hearts in his three-round clinic (and unforgettable post-fight interview) at Fight Night 4. Jackson debuted earlier this year, at Fight Night 5, and approaches his matches with a confident swagger which few have matched.

The U of MMA’s fastest gun, Jose Jovel (Dream Killer Fight Team), will fight Ronald Minera. Both men impressed fans with powerful striking skills late last year at Fight Night 4. In his match, Jovel recorded the fastest knockout in University of MMA history (five seconds), while Minera won by TKO after the second round, when the referee declared his opponent unable to continue.

“Besides being promoters, we’re also fans, and we can’t wait to see some of these fighters and match ups,” noted U of MMA founder Turi Altavilla. “The card is loaded with some of the most exciting up and coming amateur talent anywhere, including many fighters with whom our fans are already familiar. But we’re proud to say we’re working with some new gyms and fighters that should add some spice to what we’ve already been doing.”

As of this writing, a potential fight between A.J. Bryant (XFit) and Emilas Jimenez (10th Planet Costa Mesa) is awaiting confirmation, as well as matches featuring  Amanda Jones (Dynamix MMA), Autumn Richardson (Triple Threat Fighting and Fitness) and Javier Garcia (CSW), respectively.

University of MMA Fight Night 6 currently features:

University of MMA Featherweight Championship:

145 lbs. – Ryan Lilley (Bas Rutten’s Elite MMA Gym) vs. Jacob Rosales (CSW)

University of MMA Light Heavyweight Championship:

205 lbs. – Jerell Cephas (Xtreme Couture) vs. Ozzy Diaz (NZT Pankration)

265 lbs. – Unurjargal (Unuruu) Boldpurev (CSW) vs. Nathan Mullett (Bas Rutten’s Elite MMA Gym)

205 lbs – Bruno Casillas (Valhalla Elite Training Center) vs. Dominick Reyes (Cage Combat Academy)

155 lbs. – Ronald Minera (Nelson’s Boxing) vs. Jose Jovel (Dream Killer Fight Team)

185 lbs. – Sven Manseau (10th Planet Van Nuys) vs. Oscar Jimenez (XFit)

135 lbs. – Luis Carmona (10th Planet Costa Mesa) vs. Demar George (Dream Killer Fight Team)

170 lbs. – Jarett Conner (Upland MMA) vs. Flavian Pilgrim (PKG)

135 lbs. – Milton Arguello (10th Planet Van Nuys) vs. Erik van der Lee (Lightning MMA)

145 lbs. – Saverio (Sam) Dalessandro (Glendale Fighting Club) vs. Juan Orta (Lightning MMA)

“This was one of the most fun cards to put together. We’ve got a lot of matches between fighters who’ve been on a collision course for each other, and those have all the makings. Moreover, I think it’s very likely we’ll see several stars emerge from our U of MMA debuts,” said matchmaker Jay Tan.

The University of MMA: Fight Night 6 takes place at 5:00pm on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Club Nokia at L.A. LIVE, 800 West Olympic Boulevard. Doors open at 4:30pm. Fight card is subject to change. Tickets are now available and can be purchased through www.UofMMA.com and www.AXS.com, charge by phone at 888-9AXS-TIX or 888-929-7849, and from 10:00 AM-5:00 PM, Mon-Fri at the STAPLES Center Box Office located at 1111 S.
