10 Cloverfield Lane – Room Escape LA Promotion
10 Cloverfield Lane is set to release Friday, March 11, 2014. To be short, the film is a spiritual successor the the 2008 film Cloverfield. 10 Clovefield Lane is about a woman who survives a car accident and wakes up in a cellar after being rescued by what seems to be a survivalist. The women doesn’t trust him and decides she needs to escape.
To capture the spirit of the movie, the studio brought members of the press to participate in the Cold War Bunker at Room Escape Live in Los Angeles. Before I go on my huge admiration piece, I would like to note that the escape room was not altered to match the theme of the movie. It’s not to put down anything, but would have definitely made the experience that much better.
10 Cloverfield Lane is poised to be an escape thriller, putting the protagonist in a situation to use her wits in order to escape her situation. The Cold War Bunker is not an escape situation like the movie, but the Bunker is very similar to the environment that will be featured in the movie. The objective of the Cold War Bunker is to decipher the codes and secrets of an ex-double agent who has set nuclear arms to destroy the world and prevent his diabolical plan from succeeding. Each team must ban together to decipher to clues and scrummage through the bunker in order to find all the necessary keys to saving the world.
The Cold War Bunker was one of my favorite escape room experiences. The variety of the puzzles and secrets have to be one of the best I have come across. There are great moments of team work, math, and physical interaction all in one experience that are rarely found over multiple experiences. It also doesn’t lose any of the intensity being a family friendly escape room. I would highly recommend this experience for any group looking for an intense thrill, team building, and/or mental challenge.
The crossover promotion of 10 Cloverfield Lane and Room Escape Live is a brilliant idea. If the movie can capture the thrill and adrenaline that we experienced in the Cold War Bunker the movie will be one worth watching multiple times. I hope these types of promotions are continued and opened to the masses. It gives the audience a chance to really live the experience of the movie in a way that is usually only found in theme parks.
