Todd Haynes is one of the most daring filmmakers working today, and now we have the first teaser for his upcoming film Wonderstruck, which is based upon the novel by Brian Selznick, who also wrote the screenplay for the cinematic adaptation. Wonderstruck had its debut at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year to much praise, but that’s not unexpected from the director of Carol and I’m Not There.
The teaser trailer is set to David Bowie‘s iconic “Space Oddity,” which also makes an appearance in this weekend’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. What’s so refreshing about the teaser for Wonderstruck is the fact that it’s overflowing with vibrant visuals and yet its plot and story remain ambiguous. Just the way I like it.
Starring in Haynes’ film are the young duo of Millicent Simmonds and Oakes Fegley from Pete’s Dragon. Complimenting the young actors are the seasoned veterans Julianne Moore and Michelle Williams, a formidable duo.
Amazon Studios and Roadshow Attractions will be ushering Wonderstruck into theaters with Oscar hopes on October 20, 2017.
The official synopsis for Wonderstruck:
Based on Brian Selznick’s critically acclaimed novel Ben and Rose are children from two different eras who secretly wish their lives were different. Ben longs for the father he has never known, while Rose dreams of a mysterious actress whose life she chronicles in a scrapbook. When Ben discovers a puzzling clue in his home and Rose reads an enticing headline in the newspaper, both children set out on quests to find what they are missing that unfold with mesmerizing symmetry.
