Have you ever read something so odd that you couldn’t determine if you liked it or needed a shower? No, this isn’t a naughty book. Titan Comic’s recent release of Psycho Gran #1 has left me wondering if I really have this sick of a sense of humor or if my brain has finally cracked. The creator, David Leach, may have finally broken my brain.
Featuring an elderly pensioner, Psycho Gran is the tales of just that kind of grandmother. Accompanied by a vicious terrier, Gran helps turn the tables on robbers, rude theater goers and even Godzilla himself (well, an approximation of Godzilla). The comic is incredibly British, down to it’s basic slang and attitudes. Often crude, the comic rarely pulls back from completing a less than tasteful joke. Each section is done in a short story or single panel format. This makes the comic incredibly easy to peruse at one’s leisure.
A particular favorite scene of mine is Psycho Gran beating professional wrestlers to a pulp after they have not given her the match she was hoping to watch. What makes it even better is the realization at the end of the short snippet that this isn’t the first time Gran has done this, and now she has a new favorite to torment.
This is not for kids. Heck, I’m not even sure Psycho Gran is for me. However, if you’re looking for Godzilla being beaten up by an old lady who eats pitbulls for breakfast, Psycho Gran #1 is likely the comic you’ve been waiting for.
