Speculation has been running rampant since last nights WrestleMania XXX finish between the Undertaker and Brock Lesnar. The rumor-mill churned with stories of Lesnar changing the ending of the match and getting himself fired or that Undertaker himself told the referee from the mat to end the streak.
Let’s take a look how the events unfolded. In the past few years, it has become standard for the Undertaker’s opponents to hit their finishers between three to five times and last night was no different. However, this time something went terribly wrong. For copyright reasons we are not allowed to show you the video from last nights WrestleMania, but the photos we are posted can be found on WWE.com.
The final F-5 was caught at an angle to where you couldn’t see on
television (or the WWE Network) that the Undertaker protected himself from serious injury, but what the camera didn’t catch is obviously from the aftermath, the Undertaker was accidentally knocked out. The referee, counted two, you saw Lesnar spring off the Undertaker as if he had kicked out, which was part of the storyline, unfortunately, the Dead Man didn’t kick out. He laid there flat on his back. The ref even held up two
fingers to announce the near fall, but with the Undertaker completely unconscious, the only thing he could do was keep the show rolling, ending the streak and sucking all the air out of the Super/Silver Dome (if you watched Hogan’s monologue, you’ll understand).
Take a look at Paul Heyman’s face in this photo from last night’s WrestleMania, it is pure shock because he himself knew it wasn’t supposed to happen. Even the over the
shoulder shot of Lesnar’s eye indicated a, “Oh man, what just happened?” look. Notice the Undertaker’s eyes? It is the same face boxers have after they have been knocked out or suffered a sever concussion.
Anything can happen at any given time and even during scripted events people get injured, this was one of those cases, it just happened to be on the grandest stage of all. The streak is over, 25-0 was not realized and now we have to see where the storyline takes us, we can only hope to see an amazing spin and the rise of the Beast, Brock
Lesnar to legendary status.
The rumor is Sting will show up on Raw tonight, even after swearing up and down that he would never work for the WWE. Let’s see what can be done to usher in a new era, the same way the, “Montreal Screw Job,” ushered in the Attitude Era.
