Top 5 Games of the Season Gift List

(This list is in no particular order)

Battlefield 1

First on our Top 5 Games of the Season Gift List is Battlefield 1. Battlefield 1 is a World War I themed first-person shooter. This game features epic and realistic battles from the Great War, with a variety of weapons and vehicles to use. The single player portion of Battlefield 1 contains different war stories from different perspectives across the world. It features online multiplayer of up to 64 people, with four soldier classes and three vehicle classes. A great game to squad up on with some friends, Battlefield 1 has been praised by many in the gaming community and is quite possibly one of the best games of 2016.

Minecraft and/or Terraria

  • Minecraft

A 3D sandbox open world game, Minecraft is all about creativity and survival. Literally, there is a creative mode that gives you unlimited resources to build whatever you desire, or there is also a survival mode in which you have to gather resources and build tools/armor to battle off mobs. With randomly generated worlds, it has been around for 5 years, constantly updating and adding new mobs and blocks and tools for the players to enjoy. There are endless possibilities for what players can build and create, and Minecraft shows no signs of slowing down or dying off anytime soon. It is a game that both children and adults can enjoy playing.

  • Terraria

For those interested in a 2D version of Minecraft, there is Terraria. Terraria‘s base idea is pretty much the same as Minecraft: Build and create in your randomly generated world, and fight off mobs. However, Terraria is a tad bit different. Personally, I think Terraria pushes you in certain directions at times, which helps the player not get bored and gives a sense of purpose. Terraria has different boss fights and a lot more variety in terms of tools and weapons to craft that make the game almost a tad more quest-based than Minecraft. For players looking for more of an adventure than architecture, I would suggest Terraria.

General Prices:

Minecraft for computers: $26.95, for consoles: $19.99, for mobile versions: $6.99

Terraria for computers: $9.99, for consoles: $14.99, for mobile versions: $4.99

Rocket League

Rocket League is a fun car-based soccer game. The player collects boosts around the arena to use as turbo, they can jump, and barrel-roll or flip their cars to hit the ball into the enemy team’s goal. This is far better than any ordinary soccer game, for those that do not like soccer (Which is me). With free updates that bring new arenas or game modes in to play and a new crate and key system to keep customization fun and fresh, Rocket League is worth the buy. From the base game, “Soccar,” to game modes like Mutator Mashup, the basketball equivalent “Hoops,” and Rumble, Rocket League always keeps the game fun and fresh for its audience.

Titanfall 2

Titanfall 2 is a futuristic first-person shooter that combines common foot soldier action with giant robot action. The story follows Jack Cooper, a 3rd Class militia rifleman who dreams of becoming a Pilot. In the beginning, he is secretly being trained by Captain Tai Lastimosa, who is a Master-level Pilot of his Titan, BT-7274. He sees great potential in Jack, but secretly trains him to avoid all of the paperwork and strict policies in place while they are at war with the IMC. During a mission however, Jack and BT accidentally land behind enemy lines. With Captain Lastimosa on the verge of death, he transfers control of his Titan to Jack. Jack and BT have no choice but to link up and finish their mission without the captain.

The multiplayer aspect plays just about the same as many other first-person shooters nowadays. There’s a wall-running, boost jump movement system for pilots, but also the ability to call down your own titan to battle with. For any gamer looking for something different to play that has more fast-paced action, Titanfall 2 will deliver. For more, read our review of Titanfall 2 here.

Overwatch

The game to finish out our Top 5 Games of the Season Gift List is Overwatch. Overwatch is a character-class based first-person shooter. With 21 heroes at launch and two added to the game since, Blizzard has plans to keep Overwatch exciting and new for players.

There are four classes of heroes, Offense, Defense, Tank, and Support. Each role is crucial to your team’s survival. Offensive heroes are fast-moving damage seekers. Their job is to attack and send enemy defenses into disarray in order to get their team to the objective. Defensive heroes are the opposite, they need to hold down the fort so-to-speak and make sure attackers are unable to get through and take the objective.

Tanks are basically the shields and protectors of the team. The Tanks’ job is to sponge and absorb the enemy team’s damage and break their defenses in order to buy their allies time to get to the objective. These players have tons of health and usually deal a hefty amount of damage, but move slower. Taking down a Tank usually requires more than one person. Lastly, Support heroes are the team’s healers and are a protective bunch. Usually staying behind the team, they can heal, provide damage boosters, and much more for the team’s heavier hitters.

The great thing about Overwatch is that this wide variety of roles allows for players to test out different play styles and see what they like and don’t like. It doesn’t matter where you’re at skill wise, Overwatch has something for everybody.
