Thoughtful Thursday Gift Idea: Ozobot

Thoughtful Thursday Gift Idea: Teach Coding with Ozobot by Evo

Give the gift of learning to code to someone without out them realizing it with Ozobot from Evo

At this year’s Stan Lee’s Los Angeles Comic Con, I got the chance to check out Ozobots by Evo; it was awesome. I don’t know if you can tell from my profile picture down below, but I was raised to be an engineer or doctor, not the heathen creative I attempt to be now. I was raised on science and am still very fond of it, though not willing to put in the work to make a career out of it. Robotics, pneumatics, physics, and stuff in that realm get my gears spinning. My experience with robotics was cool, but very tedious. I would have to type lines and lines and lines of commands for not much payoff. I’ve only worked with a slow moving car that I had to keep from falling off a table, and a robotic arm I had to have twist a knob to release a set amount of water because for some reason using a robotic arm instead of a pressure sensitive plate, that would release the required increments of water, wouldn’t keep me busy for the whole semester…

Anyway, back to Ozobot, Ozobot is like my experience, streamlined, and not as tedious. You are able to learn to code and implement the code on the app and on the fly. No more waiting for the 1987 Macintosh to load, and input lines upon lines of code to get to the command features. Also, you are able to use real-time controls on the robot, which I was never able to do with my stupid robot car because it had no wireless signal capabilities. I think what I’m getting at is that Ozobot is what I’ve always wanted and expected out of coding.

Ozobot is also partnered with Marvel, meaning you get to turn your Ozobot into an Avenger. Place your favorite Avenger mod, from the mods available, on your Ozobot and watch how your Ozobot’s programming changes to match the Avenger’s personality. I guess you could also put Ultron on there, but I’m under the impression that anyone who chooses Ultron should be put on the potential super villain list. Another feature of the Ozobots are the constant updates, which will allow for constant learning and enjoyment. For the Avenger mods, it’ll take the form of new missions for you to complete.

Ozobot has struck the perfect balance of fun and education. It is an effortless way to teach people, although the target demo might be children, one of the most sought after and valuable skills in the world. If you’re looking for a fun gift, a way to trick your kid into learning, or maybe an investment into someone’s financial future and coincidentally your own (*cough* MOM *cough*) get an Ozobot.
