The Conjuring films have become a mainstay of the horror genre, with sequels and spinoffs stemming from James Wan’s initial horror film. Wan and co-writer Gary Dauberman have successfully spun off the Annabelle series from The Conjuring and now are spinning off The Nun from The Conjuring 2 into a horror film of her own. The first teaser for the upcoming horror flick teases a tale of Catholic hell.
The Hallow director Corin Hardy steps behind the camera for the horror spinoff. Taissa Farmiga, the sister of Conjuring star Vera Farmiga, leads this spinoff as a young nun who find herself facing a force of evil from beyond. Costarring alongside Farmiga are The Hateful Eight‘s Demián Bichir, Charlotte Hope from Game of Thrones, Ingrid Bisu from Toni Erdmann, and Bonnie Aarons as the eponymous nun terrorizing unsuspecting souls.
James Wan has as good a track record as anybody in the world of modern horror cinema. Even though he’s busy working on Aquaman, Wan isn’t one to put his name on underwhelming works of terrifying cinema. We’ll know just what holy hell is unleashed when The Nun arrives in theaters on September 7, 2018.
The official synopsis for The Nun:
When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in “The Conjuring 2,” as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.
