The Good Place has finally found its footing this season, from podding people, The Judge (May Rudolph) expelling Trevor (Adam Scott) back to The Bad Place for his evil meddling ways and stopping Michael (Ted Danson) and Janet (D’Arcy Carden) from turning into what are essentially, guardian angels. Unfortunately, the kind of became Peeping Toms.
The Snowplow (episode three of season three for those keeping score), where they move on to stage two of their ethical and moral studies. The jokes are getting funnier where Elanor (Kristen Bell) and Jason (Manny Jacinto) getting the best jokes this week.
Although I miss Google and Literal Janet, Carden still manages to steal the show. She’s got some of the best comedic timing of the 21st century. Tahani (Jameela Jamil) is a close second in scene stealing, but this is truly an ensemble cast and everyone gets their turn at owning an episode.
Danson’s Michael is definitely the helicopter mom of this season. A total busy body trying to make sure that everything goes according to plan, no matter what hiccup comes along. No matter how damaged these characters are, every single one of them is endearing, even Jason. He’s the biggest dummy on television yet the one you love more than anyone else on this show. Granted the dumb, hot guy goes back to David Cassidy in the Partridge Family day, but Jacinto continues to give it a fresh take on an old gag.
What I am loving most in all of this is that The Good Place has turned me into a full fledged Kristen Bell fan. I never saw what the big deal about Veronica Mars was or even the character she played in Fanboys that so many of my friends loves, but now I can officially say I get the appeal of Bell and everything she’s done in the past decade and a half.
The Good Place airs Thursday nights at 8:30 p.m. on NBC.
The Good Place has finally gone from a slow boil to a bubbling cauldron of laughs. I can’t wait for episode four.
