Holy shirt balls, are you forking kidding me!?! The Good Place continues to keep me amazed. In episode nine, everyone entered Janet’s (D’Arcy Carden) void to escape Shawn (Marc Evan Jackson) and his band of miserable demons from sending Eleanor (Kristen Bell) and our favorite misfits from being sent to the Bad Place. However, what happens in the void makes us fall even harder in love with Carden as she shows off her comedic skills and impersonations of our Jason (Manny Jacinto), Tahani (Jameela Jamil) and Chidi (WIlliam Jackson Harper).
Let’s be honest, there is nothing better than Janet and the only thing that could have made this episode better than a total of six Janets, would quite possibly be maybe 16 Janets. We get to see original Janet, AKA Janet Prime. Black Sheep Janet, who works in the Accountant’s office. Janet as Eleanor, Janet as Chidi, Janet as Tahani and Janet as Jason. My absolute favorite version of the multiple Janets will definitely remain Janet Jason. Carden could have gone over the top but it would have been a cheap imitation of Jacinto’s Jason and this way it was still relatively Janet only with Jason’s mannerisms and intellect…or lack there of.
Season Four of The Good Place was announced on Tuesday and there is something just so appealing about this series that keeps me coming back year-after-year. I don’t know whether to love Michael Schur for his brilliance on this take of Heaven and Hell or hate him for his genius in coming up with a series that is so fresh that doesn’t necessarily insult world religions but rather pokes fun at our own human inadequacies as we search for a reason to be better than the lowest form of ourselves.
Forget it, let’s just admit I love to hate Schur because this is one of the best shows on network television and NBC Thursday Nights is back to form with half it’s lineup being Must See TV.
The Good Place airs Thursday nights at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT following Superstore.
