The great thing about Legends of Tomorrow using time travel is that DC has great characters in many different time periods, like Jonah Hex. We already knew he’d be appearing on the show, but now we have an air-date, and casting.
Quantico‘s Johnathon Schaech has inked a deal to play everyone’s favorite disfigured western bounty hunter starting with episode eleven, with an option to return. He’s got the look for sure, though so did Josh Brolin, so it all comes down to the script. Luckily from what I’ve seen so far the scripts have been pretty good.
This opens up the gates for not only western characters like Hex or Bat Lash, but Medieval ones like the Shining Knight, Jason Blood/Etrigan, and the Viking Prince, or even WWII era heroes like Sgt. Rock or G.I. Robot. That would make an interesting episode or two.
The CW describes his character:
A true legend of the Old West, a morally ambiguous gunslinger with a penchant for danger. Surprisingly, he knows a thing or two about time travel and the future, but is at home in the Wild West. He’s been battling outlaws and gangs for awhile now, and advises the team to be extra careful when they arrive in the small town of Salvation.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow premieres in just two days.
Remember how I was talking about DC’s hype machine earlier today? We should expect it to increasingly ramp up in the days leading up to Batman v Superman, and especially Suicide Squad. Much like Marvel did with Guardians of the Galaxy, a team of unknowns to mainstream America, there is going to be an incredible push by Warners for trailers, merchandising, and posters. Like this new one released today.
I like the way they are incorporating the skull in much of the marketing; after all these are suicide missions they’re bein sent on by Amanda Waller. There will be a new trailer for Suicide Squad on tonight’s DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League on the CW.
Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5th.
Danny Trejo had a little bit of fun on Twitter today, tweeting this photo of himself as the main man, Lobo, with this caption: “First rule of hunting, Super Dupe. Make the target come to you. @DCComics“. Whether he was just having a laugh, or letting DC know he’s down to play the cosmic bastich is purely speculation, but I’d say it’s a little from column A and a little from column B. Hell, I’d pay to see Josh Brolin in the role if they ever make a Lobo film.
It’s going to be a DC heavy week at FanboyNation, so expect much more in the coming days. But for now, let’s look at the Justice League one more time.
