Super Dungeon Bros Review [Xbox One]
Super Dungeon Bros Review: Don’t waste your money. Snag it if it’s free.
Super Dungeon Bros is a rock-themed co-op brawler with cheesy one-liners and a few frame rate issues. The player takes control of one of four characters, Axl, Freddie, Lars, or Ozzie, on a quest through various dungeons in the realm of Rokheim.
I will try to keep this as short as possible, considering I don’t have much of anything good to say about the game. Your movement feels awful, the weapons and ways to attack feel ultimately all the same, and the enemies don’t really do anything unless they are in large crowds. Which, if they are in large crowds, good luck playing the game, because you will drop frames. A lot of frames. Also the story never really expands past the openings sequence.
This game might be worth buying if it was just, better. Snag it while it’s free, as it has potential to be a great game to play with friends, it will just get old and really frustrating very quickly.
If you would still like to see for yourself, Super Dungeon Bros is available on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC.
*Editor’s note: The game has been updated to address some of the issues. Also, the random/infinite world generation is a work of art. However, the extremely unbalanced gameplay and the very flawed upgrade and level-up and purchase system drowns out the makings of potentially incredible beat-em up. There is no way you should have to play through and die 3+ times to gather enough currency to buy a weapon so you can beat the first world. Also, resetting the upgrades you make to a character after resetting is one of the most infuriating mechanics and makes no sense considering the work and time you have to put into the game. The whole point to choosing a character and having the ability to level them up or boost their stats is to be able to return to that character with said upgrades. Otherwise, make them all exactly the same or the expert with their load out and make the boosts activate per area or progress rather than have you level them up every time you play as them.
