The Hanger, Costa Mesa, CA – December 5, 2015 — Sugar Rush, a name that is definitely no joke, presented by Big Bite Events is talking place at the Orange County Fairgrounds. An event that will satisfy your sweet tooth with various confections of deliciously decedent desserts ranging from shaved ice, gelato, cookies, cakes and pies. Everyone, including the vegan and gluten free can enjoy an array of delectable desires.
We were treated to a wide variety of sweets including a wine and beer pairing that tickled the tongue with delight. I went with the wine pairing once I noticed the first beer was an IPA, which would have ruined the entire experience for me, as I refuse to succumb to the hipster poison of choice.
My favorite was the pairing of the salted maple caramel with a New Zealand Pinot Noir. After following the directions of the sommelier to sniff the candy, then the wine, followed by taking a bite of the confection, then a sip, was I supposed to be able to taste how one would enhance the other.
I typically do not adhere to the traditions and ideologies of a gourmet or a foodie, but I do know what I like, which are primarily cookies, ice cream and pie. When it came to cookies, GG’s Desserts became an instant favorite, especially with the Ultimate Chocolate cookie. It wasn’t as rich as it sounds, but sweet enough to make me want to eat an entire batch.
However, when it came to design, Albert’s Petite Sweets won our attention, especially with his Star Wars cake pops…come on. We’re FanboyNation and Star Wars comes out in two weeks, he knew we were coming. A close second, especially for those of us in love with the holidays, were Paige’s Cake Pops, extremely rich, but well worth the caloric content, especially if chocolate is your thing.
