More of history between Celestia and King Sombra is revealed in part 3 of Katie Cook’s wonderful story arc, “Reflections”. The Mane 6 look into the good king’s past to try and unlock any clues to aid them in fighting their own evil counterparts in his world. But they discover that, much like in real life, fighting with oneself is rarely easy.
Yet another amazing issue! If anyone has been following my reviews on this plot, my fangirl-ing should be pretty obvious. I have yet to find something I don’t like about this story. Even the cute short comics in the epilogues about Starswirl the Bearded have been fun. If you are a MLP fan of any variety, please go and hunt down the issues covers. They are just beautiful and hilarious–one is even a cross over with the Walking Dead. Andy Price’s cover and the Hot Topic exclusive have to be my favorite.
When the Crystal Kingdom episode happened, a lot of MLP fans were disappointed in King Sombra’s miniscule role as a villain. I even felt that way a bit, though he had a great character design. The “Reflections” plot in the comics has fully compensated for that, in my opinion. If the show had given this kind of insight into the land across the mirror and Celestia’s ties to it, the impact of the Crystal Kingdom would have been far greater for the fans. I can’t possibly imagine the emotions Celestia would have endured has she decided to fight against Sombra–though that is a head-canon for another day. All together, bronies should enjoy this plot. I hope there are several more episodes in it, or (fingers crossed) we get a movie based around it. Ether way, I am a happy Brony.
