Rising star, Mindy Robinson is carving out a name for herself in Hollywood. The petite blond has over 45 credits to her name, is in the top 5,000 STARmeter on IMDB.com and is constantly working, whether in reality television, game shows or featured films.
Robinson will be taking part in the documentary Typecast, where the topic of body image and the demands that Hollywood makes on physical appearances can make or break your career. Producers Derek Easley, Robert Ray, and Casey Hoalcraft, chose to interview Robinson as she is commonly portrayed as the blond, bikini clad, bimbo, when in reality, she holds a bachelor’s degree from California State University, San Bernandino in American History, graduating Summa Cum Laude and had aspirations of becoming a history professor.
“History was easy for me, especially all the research that was involved, which has helped me in my acting,” said Robinson at her home in the greater Los Angeles, region.
The catalyst in changing her career path from educator to actor was that Robinson ended up in a movie while living San Diego, igniting a passion to not only be in front of the camera but also to learn the production process.
Robinson, who appears in three episodes of TBS’ hit reality show, King of the Nerds, as “Pom-Pom Kitty,” could have easily been a contestant as much as she was eye candy. The self-professed geek, has a collection of vintage My Little Pony dolls from the 1980s, of which, Pinky Pie is her favorite. The collection is labeled and stored in six large plastic tubs only to be taken out, groomed and returned to closet.
“I believe being typecast keeps you employed. Only whiny actors complain about that. I’m lucky enough that people know me for me, especially from reality TV,” said Robinson, confessing that 80 percent of her work comes from being in a bikini, which she will be wearing in Iron Man 3.
Filmed in Pasadena, over the summer of 2012, Robinson let it slip that the “Nerds” were forced to miss San Diego Comic-Con in order to keep with the tight production schedule, making the cast jealous as she relayed her adventures in “Geekvana.”
Robinson was able to break her typecasting as bikini bimbo in the horror film, Kill Joy, where she played a demon and did her own stunts. What was an added bonus for her, which should have been filmed as an outtake, was her going through the drive-thru in her demon costume, ordering take out.
This year will be quite busy for Robinson, besides King of the Nerds and Typecast, she will be starring in Casting Couch, due out in March. Chicks Dig Gay Guys, White Zombie, Fork You, A Place Called Hollywood and American Ghandi.
