Director Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg are reuniting for their fourth collaboration, and their first which isn’t based on a true story. Following Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, and Patriots Day, Berg and Wahlberg team for the action thriller Mile 22. Even though Mile 22 is fiction, it’s obviously inspired by real world events with Wahlberg starring as a CIA agent seeking out a terrorist plot by capturing the highly volatile asset played by The Raid‘s Iko Uwais.
Now this trailer for Mile 22 does seem to give quite a lot of the plot away in its two-plus minutes, so I’d exercise caution if you want to preserve the mystery. Co-starring with Wahlberg and Uwais are Lauren Cohan, Ronda Rousey, and John Malkovich. Peter Berg’s films have always had a bit of a right-wing streak running through them, and I wonder if Mile 22 might dabble in some of the problematic territory that marred Patriots Day. Politics aside, Berg is one hell of a visceral filmmaker and I can’t wait to see what he does with action feature the lightning fast Iko Uwais, who has been waiting years for his American breakout role.
STX Entertainment will release Mile 22 in theaters on August 3, 2018.
The official synopsis for Mile 22:
In a visceral modern thriller from the director of Lone Survivor, Mark Wahlberg stars as James Silva, an operative of the CIA’s most highly-prized and least-understood unit. Aided by a top-secret tactical command team, Silva must retrieve and transport an asset who holds life-threatening information to Mile 22 for extraction before the enemy closes in.
