Voyage to the Iron Reef is a new 4D video game style ride at Knott’s Berry Farm. As a theme park junkie, I will say that this is one of the best rides I have ever been on. I went on the ride six times in one day because I loved it that much. Think of it as Disneyland’s Buzz Lightyear/Toy Story Midway Mania meets Universal Studios Transformers the Ride. You board your own sub which seats four people across with four guns. While playing, each gun shoots your own color so you can tell yours from someone else’s. You shoot steampunk versions of fish, crabs, jelly fish, and octopus. There are many interactive targets like a Knott’s’ roaring 20’s sign, ship’s lights, and mines that blow air on you when you hit them therefor adding an extra D to make the ride 4D. Every time I rode the ride I saw something new mostly because the screens are so freaking huge. They look like the 3D screens at the King Kong experience on the tram ride at Universal Studios. The 4D on Iron Reef is one of the best I have experienced on any ride. Some tips for getting a high score on this ride include you hitting as many special targets which are gold.
There is usually one or two per screen. However once they’re hit, they don’t come back. You want to make sure you are first to hit them before anyone else in your submarine does. Also creatures that are farther away on each screen are worth more points then the ones closer to you.
Also new at Knott’s Berry Farm this summer is Blockbuster Beagle, a new ice skating show at the Charles M Schulz Theatre. The show features world class ice skating as Snoopy and the Peanuts gang go Hollywood. Scenes include California style sets from Hollywood Blvd, the Griffin, and Venice Beach.
You won’t want to miss an amazing new stunt show called Vertical Impact & Vertical Impact Geared Up Show. It blends extreme stunts with high flying acrobats, and features a cast from around the world that break down walls and defy gravity to latest music hits. You can buy tickets ahead of time at Knott’s Berry Farm here https://www.knotts.com/tickets Or for four easy payments of $24.50 get a season pass. Let’s see if you can beat my high score on Iron Reef.
