Kansas City, Mo. – After a successful show in July, Invicta Fighting Championships announced its return to the nationally recognized historical landmark, the Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Mo. on Friday, September 23, 2016.
Invicta FC 19, streaming exclusively live on UFC Fight Pass and will be headlined by two title bouts. Atop the card, newly crowned interim flyweight champion Jennifer Maia (13-4-1) puts her belt on the line against challenger Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi (19-12).
Brazil’s Maia captured gold at Invicta FC 16 in March, defeating fellow countrywoman Vanessa Porto by unanimous decision in a “Fight of the Year” contender. Modafferi, a veteran of UFC and Strikeforce, has won four of her last five fights including victories over divisional contenders DeAnna Bennett and Andrea Lee.
In the co-main event, Japanese star Ayaka Hamaski (13-1) defends her atomweight championship against surging Jinh Yu Frey (5-1). Hamasaki has won her last four bouts, the most recent coming by way of submission via third-round armbar against Amber Brown at Invicta FC 16. Yu Frey also enters the contest having won four straight, including a unanimous decision win over former atomweight champion Herica Tiburcio in March.
