Vestron Video has a long history of putting out quirky and original horror tinged films since the days of VHS, and Ken Russell’s (Lair of the White Worm) 1986 fictionalized Mary Shelley biopic Gothic is the latest in their deal with Lionsgate to bring these movies to Blu-ray in all of their re-mastered glory. This will be the 13th release from the wonderful Vestron Video Collector’s Series that focuses on everything from forgotten or cult-classic low-budget schlock-fests like Slaughter High to more mainstream, higher budget films like Warlock, always with a great selection of bonus materials including commentaries, interviews, brand new and vintage featurettes, and more.
The official synopsis:
Five famous friends spend a hallucinogenic evening confronting their fears in a frenzy of shocking lunacy and horrifying visions in this fictional tale, which tells the story of Mary Shelley’s conception of Frankenstein on one debauched night in Lord Byron’s home.
Starring Golden Globe winner Gabriel Byrne (The Usual Suspects), Julian Sands (Warlock), Natasha Richardson (Maid in Manhattan), Myriam Cyr, and Timothy Spall, Gothic is directed by Russell from a screenplay by Stephen Volk.
The people behind the Vestron Video series always put a lot of love into these releases, painstakingly remastering the films for a fantastic viewing experience on Blu-ray, while also presenting a wealth of supplemental materials including new interviews with many of the cast and crew members shedding a light onto the sometimes funny, oftentimes stressful, but always interesting goings-on behind-the-scenes.
